Sarajevo Medical Talks: Development of Biosensors for Pesticide Detection

As part of the Sarajevo Medical Talks series, a lecture titled “Development of Biosensors for the Detection of Pesticides” was delivered by Assistant Prof. Dr. Mediha Esra Yayla from the University of Health Sciences (SBU), Türkiye on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

In her presentation, Dr. Yayla explained a novel and rapid biosensor-based method for detecting Malathion pesticide, emphasizing its importance for food safety and public health. She highlighted how the collaboration between bioengineering and health sciences enables the development of innovative biosensors capable of faster and more accurate detection of toxic pesticide residues in food.

Dr. Yayla also shared her academic and professional journey, including her education and research experience in the United States, her professional engagement with TIKA (Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency), and her current role as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Health Sciences (SBU), Türkiye.

The lecture provided valuable interdisciplinary insights and emphasized the growing role of biosensor technologies in modern biomedical and health sciences research.
